The Shattered Reality Of Our Modern Age

I don’t really know what’s wrong with the world anymore.

I mean, I’m someone who looks at the world on a daily basis. I take in all the insanity and try to boil it down for human consumption. My entire job revolves around comprehending what is taking place at a given moment and to try to figure out just why that is.

The problem, though, is that I look at a glimpse of the world and can figure it out from there, but our world is broken. Horribly, horribly broken.

A New Agoge: Part 1

Spartan boys, when they reached a certain age, were pried from their mothers and put into a special state-run school called “the agoge” where they were taught to be warriors.  It almost had to be state-run because few parents would subject their children to such brutality.

By the time they were finished, they were Spartan warriors, and ready to defend their city from any attacker.

Today, most of us put our children in state-run schools as well…and the results aren’t anything like the agoge.  In fact, they may well be the opposite of the agoge in many ways.  While the Spartan school sought to turn boys into men, in many ways public education seeks to turn boys into girls. The Upbringing For A Warrior Elite

I’ll be honest, a lot of times, it feels like the press is against us as men.  Everything about men sucks and everything that might possibly lead to more men is awful.  That’s how it feels.

So imagine my surprise when this particular article showed up in my Facebook feed yesterday.  It’s all about how boys should be permitted to play with weapons like sticks and swords and stuff.
