How To Get Fit On Any Budget

I was talking to someone last night about yesterday’s post. This is a longtime friend of mine, so he read the post and came to me directly to talk about it. His issue was that he didn’t really even know where to start. He’s back in college full-time and his wife is the only one working. Since he’s going to an online school, there’s not really a campus gym available to him, and with money tight, he was curious what he could do.

Yeah, I threw out a few suggestions in that post, but I also thought it might be time for a post I was toying with for a while, and that’s breaking down options based on cost.

Now, bear in mind, this will be a long one and some things may show up in several places, but there will be reasons. This will also not necessarily be an all-inclusive list, so I welcome folks to add to this list.

Without further ado, here we go, from the least expensive to the most expensive.

DDP Yoga – Aftermath: Part 3

It hasn’t really been all that long for the “Energy” workout from yesterday to have done all that much, but it was long enough, and so far? Pretty much what I expected the aftermath to be.

I do feel some slight twinges of soreness in my lats–which oddly enough,Ā have always been a trouble area for me to train hard enough with weights–but nothing spectacularly sore or anything.

To be honest, I’m a little pissed I didn’t finish the workout, but so be it. A lot of people can’t the first time. So I’m going to focus on just doing more next time. I got nine minutes, so next time needs to be 10 at a minimum.

Frankly, it was probably pretty stupid for me to expect to do a 21-minute workout with few breaks in it when I felt slightly winded from the intro workout. Live and learn.

I don’t have a lot of thoughts on any of this today, so I’m going to leave you there.

Moving forward, I’ll record my training logs here, but from time to time, I’ll also include some other things I’m looking at and thinking about, so sometimes there may be two posts on a given day. I doubt that’ll be the norm, though, just FYI.

Hell, I’ll be doing good to get a single post per day in with my workload. šŸ™‚

DDP Yoga: Energy

First, I’m sorry this is late. This has been the day from hell on my end, which means I didn’t do any kind of workout until late. In fact, I’m still feeling sweat on my foreheadĀ at the moment from the workout, so all these recollections are pretty fresh.

As promised, today I did the DDP Yoga workout called “Energy.” Continue reading “DDP Yoga: Energy”

Another Day, Another Workout

Yes, I’m going to spend a good bit of time logging my workouts when I’m not pontificating on various things. This does two things. First, it keepsĀ me accountable. Second, it allows people to actually track how I did things, see my mistakes, and put the whole process of following the Warrior Pyramid out in the open.

So, without further ado…

Today I did the DDP Yoga thing for the second time, and it’s funny. I’d told myself that it was pretty easy (and it was) so I decided to go through the introductory Diamond Dozen workout with a bit more intensity. You see, since it’s an introductory workout, Dallas tends to explain the movement with a demonstration before you actually do it. Since I’d told myself that Monday was so easy, I decided to do twice as much work.

DDP Yoga – The Aftermath: Part 1

So it’s been about 24-hours since I completed the first day of DDP Yoga, which gives me a bit of an opportunity to talk a bit about how that went.

First, I’m not feeling particularly sore, which I would have thought I would have despite the relatively easy effort required doing what’s called the Diamond Dozen.

Of course, that’s not particularly surprising because the Diamond Dozen is really more of a lesson on what the moves are and how to do them. Yoga is all about postures, and you have to do them properly to get the most out of them. Diamond Dozen is about covering those bases so you can start the first real workout with at leastĀ some knowledge of just what the hell you’re doing.

Even so, I still expected some soreness.

Of course, I do have a bit…in my wonky shoulder. Continue reading “DDP Yoga – The Aftermath: Part 1”

Dealing With Injuries

Yes, I’m just starting a relaunch of this site’s focus, and I’m going to complain about injuries. Go me.

But, then again, I’m injured. I have been for a while, and I’m not completely sure what the problem is. My right shoulder gives me a little twinge when I do certain things like pulling. Not massive, but enough to let me know something isn’t right.

So, since it started during a workout a couple months ago, I did the sensible thing. I stopped lifting.

However, the injury hasn’t really gotten any better. Again, I’m not sure why, but it is what it is and I have to deal with it.

So, for a little while now, I’ve been thinking about something that I was a little hesitant to try: Yoga. Continue reading “Dealing With Injuries”
